TRY the Layer ‘-1’ Challenges for Ethereum

BusinessTRY the Layer ‘-1’ Challenges for Ethereum

TRY Blockchain Global Hackathon Series, with its first event “TRY New Ethereum” was officially launched in University of Oxford on 9th, October. This event was held by BlockMania, an international blockchain consulting agency, and technologically and academically supported by Trias Lab, which is developing its public chain Trias and launched Testnet earlier this year. Trias CEO Dr. Anbang Ruan, who was awarded PhD in Cyber Security by Oxford, gave a seminar on TEE technology and Trias’ efforts on improving performance and security of Ethereum, Hyperledger and other public chains before revealing the challenges of the hackathon. The event was attended by graduates from Oxford and other universities, industrial experts and blockchain enthusiasts.

The Hackathon is a first-of-its-kind event in the world as it brings together all the top projects, communities, issues and developers. The 1st Hackathon: “TRY New Ethereum” pays tribute to Ethereum 2.0 with a focus on its scalability challenges. Comparing to the existing potential solutions, the “-1” Layer Network developed by Trias Lab presents a disruptive direction by integrating the TEE technology and Graph Algorithms. Earlier this year, the Trias team has achieved a 20-50x improvement in TPS for Ethereum by solely deploying modified Ethereum nodes on the “-1” Layer Network. The team believes that much more progress will be achieved with the Network and calls for more developers and researchers to build enhancements by integrating the “-1” Layer Network and Ethereum, or even other public chains, to solve the scalability issues for the blockchain world.

TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) is a technology that guarantees computations to be not interfered with by the hosting operating system. It is a separated execution environment running in parallel with Rich OS, providing security services for the Rich OS environment. Applications in TEE access hardware and software resources independently from the Rich OS and all the other applications. TEE currently includes Intel SGX, Intel TXT, TPM, ARM Trustzone.

The Layer “-1” Network is an all-platform-supported native-application-compatible smart contract execution platform, development framework and collaborating ecosystem built in Trias. Leviatom, one of Trias’s three subsystems, integrates Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) and Graph algorithms to achieve the correct execution of general-purpose software. Leviatom implements a Heterogeneous Consensus Graph (HCGraph) algorithm, which combines heterogeneous TEE technologies and graph computing algorithms.

The challenges for the participants to solve includes:

1.Use the layer ‘-1’enhancement to help Ethereum to design KAD trusted protocol to improve network efficiency and other performance.

2.Use the layer ‘-1’enhancement to improve Ethereum’s  frozen beacon chain scheme.

3.Use the layer ‘-1’enhancement to achieve efficient consensus system based on trusted super nodes.

4.Use the layer ‘-1’enhancement to design a 99% Fault Tolerant Consensus for Ethereum.

5.Design a new Zero Knowledge scheme without the need for a Trusted Setup.

The TRY Blockchain Global Hackathon Series

The 1st Hackathon will be followed by the 2nd held in Peking University at the end of the year. The series will be the stage for the most innovative and cutting-edge incubator of blockchain and even broader areas of computer science. Professors from the world’s top universities, founders of the top projects and opinion leaders will be the judges. Winners in each Hackathon will be invited to demonstrate their technical power and compete for the final award.
